Privacy Policy for Folio

Folio is an offline HTML library and viewer. We do not collect, sell, or share your personal data. Folio has no developer-operated server, advertising, analytics, tracking, or crash-reporting service. Optional iCloud and Google Drive features communicate directly with those services only when you choose to use them.

What Folio stores, and where

Pages, supporting files, tags, icons, favorites, settings, and security choices are stored on your device. Files you import from Files, another app, or a watched folder are copied into Folio's local library. Removing a page from Folio does not delete its original source file. Folio has no server, so we cannot see your files, library, or app activity.

iCloud sync (optional)

iCloud sync is off by default. If you enable it, Folio stores your library information in your private iCloud database so it can stay consistent across devices signed in to your Apple ID. You can separately choose whether to sync page files and app settings, and you can exclude individual pages. Watched-folder permissions remain on the device that granted them, and pages sourced from Google Drive do not use Folio's iCloud file storage.

This data is sent directly between the app and Apple's CloudKit service. It is associated with your Apple ID and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy; it is not sent to Folio or a Folio-operated server.

Network access

Pages are offline by default, and Folio blocks their external network requests. If you enable Network Access for an individual page, that page's own code may communicate directly with the addresses it contains. Those requests do not pass through Folio servers. Review a page and its source before allowing access if you do not trust its author.

Google Drive (optional)

Google Drive access is off by default and entirely optional. Choosing Add from Google Drive opens Google's sign-in and file picker in a secure system authentication session. Folio never sees your Google password.

Folio requests Google's drive.file permission. This lets Folio download and refresh only files you explicitly choose for the app; it does not give Folio general access to list or browse the rest of your Drive. If you make a persistent connection in Settings, Folio also requests basic OpenID, email, and profile permissions so it can show which Google account is connected.

For selected files, Folio processes the file content and metadata needed to import and refresh the page, such as its name, identifier, size, and modification date. The connected account's email address may be stored locally to label the connection. Refresh tokens are stored in the device Keychain, and access tokens are kept only as needed to make requests. Requests go directly between your device and Google's services over HTTPS; this information is not sent to us.

Use More (…) → Settings → Disconnect Drive to ask Google to revoke Folio's access and remove the local token and account label. You can also revoke access from your Google Account permissions.

Folio's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Third-party services

Folio does not include advertising, analytics, tracking, crash-reporting, or social-network SDKs. Optional iCloud and Google Drive connections are described above. Files you choose to open may contain their own scripts or links; Folio blocks their network access unless you enable it for that page.

Data retention and deletion

You control the information stored by Folio. Remove individual pages from the Library, disconnect Google Drive in Settings, or use Reset Everything to remove Folio's local library and restore its settings. Original files outside Folio are not deleted. If iCloud sync is enabled, changes may sync through your private iCloud database to your other devices.

Children

Folio does not knowingly collect personal information from children or anyone else.

Changes to this policy

If Folio's data practices change, this page and its “Last updated” date will be revised before the change is released when appropriate.
